The Irony of a Healthy Lifestyle
I’m trying to eat healthier so I’ve begun purchasing organic meat. I know I could up the amount of vegetables in my diet but as long as we’re whacking animals in droves I may as well be polite and eat them.

I must say the organic meat has a much better flavor and I can eat as much as I want without growing breasts. That’s a plus.

Some people might say that red meat is bad for me and pork fat will clog my arteries and blah, blah, blah…I think it depends on the person. Mrs. Muzikdude’s grandfather was raised on a farm with livestock and ate home grown meat his entire life. In fact, in his final years he survived on nothing but pork fat, Skoal, and Black Velvet. He died at 94 years old. Maybe I’ll adjust my diet to closer reflect that of the old farmer.

When I first met him he asked if I wanted a “highball” (whiskey and water) and I said yes. That was the first and last time. He poured an 8 ounce tumbler of whiskey and added an eye dropper of water…no ice. He downed two of those before dinner. Mine lasted the rest of the week.

He lived through the prohibition, ran a bit of moonshine for bootleggers and consumed enough grain alcohol to replace fossil fuel as a viable energy source so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that his liver was impervious to that nancy whiskey they produce in Kentucky. He never stressed about his diet or his health. Maybe that’s the answer…low stress, hard work and slow living. The irony of today’s society is that a good amount of stress in our lives is created by worrying about our diet and health.

I think I’ll just live.
