I had to go re-qualify on my big Army M-16 A2 gun. Yup, I was learning the fine art of killin’. I haven’t fired the qualification course in over a year so I was unaware of the changes that had taken place.
Apparently, we use new ammunition now. The instructor told me that this new ammo is “environmentally friendly. “
“Wow”, I said “that will be a real comfort to the enemy as it tears through his body”
The class erupted in laughter
“No, no…” he said ”we only use it here on the range because it’s healthier for the wildlife”
“Healthy?” I thought this to be strange “Is it organic then?”
“I’m not sure”
“Low carb?”
“I doubt it”
“Biodegradable?”
“I think so”
I could tell he just wanted to continue with the class but I couldn’t leave it alone
“Will these rounds kill an elk?”
“I believe so”
“So, you’re saying that we’re not lobbing chocolate covered yogurt down range.”
“Sir” the instructor’s patience is now spent “what exactly are you trying to ask?”
“I’m not sure…but it seems strange that the government would spend money on healthy ammunition.”
What this says to me is that we feel the environment is more important than human life.
Anyway, we fired the course and the health bullets acted just like real ones.
I scored 48 out of a possible 50. That makes me a marksman (again) but this time I’m a marksman that’s good for you.
