I would like to start by thanking Michele for the inspiration that led me to solve all the problems of the world by ripping off her concept and offering a not-so-simple answer to her question.

The chicken crossing the road is a widely accepted misconception. The truth, however, is that this age old question is derived from our perception of something far deeper than a simple riddle. Let’s step out of the proverbial box, shall we?
We like to keep things simple, so we choose to accept the chicken’s road crossing at face value and we are willing to live with the unanswered question of “Why?”
The road represents the space/time continuum while the chicken represents the path of our lives. As we travel through time and space we view our lives subjectively and the chicken appears to move in a straight line from one side of the road to another but, when viewed objectively, the picture changes drastically.
You see, the chicken actually travels along a curve much like a sine wave. Since we are moving forward with the fowl our perception of our chicken's path is skewed. This would indicate that our lives are much more complicated than we care to admit. The truth is, we can’t handle the truth. This theory was first developed by Jack Nicholson and delivered to the world subliminally in the movie “A Few Good Men”. The jury is still out as to just how much Hollywood controls our lives. That’s another conversation.
So the answer to the question is that the chicken never crosses the road…not really. It’s just our perception.
Things get really interesting when we view someone else’s chicken. While ours appears to be moving along in straight and parallel lines with some sort of purpose our neighbor’s chicken appears to be bouncing around aimlessly as if its head were cut off. This causes us to criticize the path of our neighbor’s chicken and since their perception is quite the opposite of ours they feel a need to criticize our chicken.
We should strive to walk a mile with our neighbor’s chicken before critiquing the path it takes.
I fail miserably in this area and although I do not have enough credibility in this venue to definitively answer the riddle of the chicken, I believe I have the gist of the solution.
I’m open to other possibilities.
